FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rockmond Dunbar lends his support to Real Men Cook as the event returns to the Fair Park .
DALLAS, TX / Real Men Cook/May 20, 2008-If it’s been a while since a real man cooked for you, be sure to attend the largest family celebration in the country and presented annually on Father's Day, for 8 consecutive years in the DFW metroplex. Real Men Cook is scheduled for June 15, 2008 from 3-6 pm at the African American Museum at Fair Park , come and salute our celebrity host, Rockmond Dunbar (Soul Food/Prison Break).
In 2005, Dunbar graced the small screen in a role that couldn't have been more different than the one he previously played in Soul Food. Cast as hardened prison inmate "C-Note" on the hit Fox series Prison Break, Dunbar portrayed his most compelling television character to date. From inmate to medico, the versatile star could next be seen as compassionate Dr. Tom Jonas on the small-screen medical drama Heartland. Dunbar is theatrically trained actor who has subsequently made a name for himself as a valuable film and television commodity, Rockmond Dunbar proves he is more than a actor as he lends his name and support to Dallas’ Real Men Cook charitable efforts to raise funds for the community.
Real Men Cook is managed by a full volunteer effort of cooks, celebrities and community leader. It is a masterfully executed celebration of men for women, children, and the community and is presented in 10 cities simultaneously on Father's Day. In Dallas , we will be hosting Celebrity hosts Rockmond Dunbar, our chairs and our taster’s at our VIP –Pre Event Reception at 6pm located at Brooklyn Jazz CafĂ© on May 31st, 2008.
The local Real Men Cook Executive Committee, in cooperation with local event sponsors, is hosting a VIP Gathering. “The reception is just an appetizer to the main course of this Fathers Day celebration. “It's a fun-filled food festival honoring real men--fathers, brothers, uncles, coaches or teachers that dispel the myth that Black communities lack positive male role models,” said Terry Allen, Real Men Cook Dallas Event Manager.
This reception will provide the perfect opportunity for all prospective cooks and volunteers to find out what a commitment to participate in the Real Men Cook event entails. By its very definition, all event cooks must be males. However, men, women and children (10 and older) are welcome as volunteers.
As a cook registration incentive, any first time event cook who registers at or prior to the reception will receive their choice of either 10 complimentary tickets to donate to the charity of their choice or a complimentary copy of "Real Men Cook: 100 Recipes for Family Celebrations" by event co-founder K. Kofi Moyo with page 40 dedicated to Dallas Event Manager Terry Allen’s chocolate cake recipe handed down to him by his late grandmother (while supplies last). A true keepsake, the foreword of this book was written by 2008 presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Today, Real Men Cook remains the leading urban Father's Day experience. Millions share the experience through interactive news programming and other media coverage in 10 cities across the country. “I am 'peacock proud" that this is our ninth year in Dallas .” Our partners include American Airlines, the City of Dallas, KG Fashion Superstores, the South Dallas Fair Park Trust Fund to name a few. This event has become The National Urban Father's Day pastime in celebrating our African culture with a family reunion spirit.”
With a mission to build families and provide the opportunity for non-profits to raise money from event ticket sales, Real Men Cook® for Charity mobilizes and spotlights hundreds of men in urban communities across the country who are willing to donate their time and resources to cook and serve samples of their favorite dishes on Father's Day. In addition to Dallas , Real Men Cook will be serving up family fun in Atlanta , Chicago (the founding city), Philadelphia , Detroit , Los Angeles , Miami , New York , Phoenix and Washington , DC . Last year's Real Men Cook event provided more than 10,000 attendees the opportunity to taste over 750 different food selections prepared by 600-plus men nationwide
“This year's Real Men Cook event is poised to take the Real Men Cook crusade and its associated charitable arm, Real Men Charities, Inc to an entirely new level. The food, entertainment, health & wellness focus, and overall festive and family friendly atmosphere are guaranteed to deliver a most memorable Father's Day celebration, “says Yvette Moyo, Founder of Real Men Cook. Commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the MLK Assassination with the Dallas SCLC
In December 2007, a local chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference(SCLC) was reorganized and chartered in the city of Dallas. This social change organization was founded in 1957 on a national scale by civil rights leader and minister, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As we embark upon the forty year following his untimely death on April 4th 1968, The Chairman, President, Executive Board and the members of the Dallas Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference cordially invites you to for the Commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of The MLK Assassination on Friday April 4, 2008 beginning at 6:00pm.
This celebration will commence with a Citywide moment of silence at 6:01pm to honor the time of Dr. King's assassination and will be immediately followed by a Memorial March that will begin from the Fair Park Entrance at the intersection of Robert B. Cullum Blvd and Martin Luther King Blvd to the Martin Luther King Center at 2922 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.. We will conclude with a Prayer Vigil to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King.
The SCLC organization was the vehicle used to launch the Civil Rights Movement to the national stage following the successful bus boycott of the Montgomery Transportation System in the late 1950s. It was during the early meetings of this group, nonviolent mass action became the adopted strategic cornerstone and the founders also determined to make the SCLC a movement open to all, regardless of race, religion, or background.
Today, the SCLC is a nation-wide organization comprised of chapters and affiliates with programs that affect the lives of all Americans: north, south, east and west. Its sphere of influence and interests has even become international in scope because the human rights movement transcends national boundaries.
Reverend Derrick Bowman, the Pastor of Faithway Fellowship Baptist Church of Hamilton Park is the president of the local chapter of the SCLC. We currently have approximately 50 members and meet once a month at the Martin Luther King Center at 7:00pm. Please contact Rev. Bowman at (972) 792-0240 or via email at dbowman4715@hotmail.com for more information or to support the local chapter. Please RSVP with our SCLC secretary, Earnestine Brooks, for the event at erniebrooks@sbcglobal.net.
